WNBC-TV, New York, NY
LOCAL STATION, MAJOR MARKET
WNBC committed to covering issues more and campaign strategy less. For nine weeks, it aired a 10-12 minute segment each Monday during the hour-long "Live at Five" broadcast. Each included an explanatory piece about a key issue, followed by a report explaining where the Presidential and Senate candidates stood on the issue. The judges praise the station for good reporting and strong story telling which helped viewers more clearly understand issues. They called the station's segment on the death penalty "a great piece of television" and "a beautifully done piece".
